Vieques Travel Reminders
- Eat dinner early: And never in a hurry. Most places won’t sit you after 7:30 pm. Late-night food options can be a scavenger hunt depending on the day of the week/time of the year. Adds to the fun!
- If you don’t rent a vehicle: Take Taxi business cards when you see them. There is no uber in Vieques and you should prebook Taxi’s in advance.
- Prebook a Taxi: A must if traveling to Ceiba Airport, Ceiba Ferry, or Vieques Airport. The Vieques Ferry usually has Taxi’s 1st come 1st serve. Hustle! Or prebook, peace of mind is priceless.
- Main Island (PR vs Vieques) Car Rentals: You cannot bring a main island (PR) car rental to Vieques. There is overnight parking at the Ceiba Ferry and Airport.
- Should you rent a Vehicle? You don’t need to rent a vehicle in Vieques, but you should! Golf and UTV carts are a great adventurous and fun way for safe people to see the island. Jeeps/Broncos go faster, have AC, and you see more of the island if a planned short stay. Just not as adventurous to drive, yet much safer.
- Sunsets: See a sunset in Esperanza.
- Book a local excursion: Day Sail Trip, Yoga, Snorkeling, Horse Riding, Buggy Rental, Jet Ski’s, Fishing Charters, Bike Tours, Trail Tours, & More. There’s more than just beaches, yet we don’t blame you if you just want to sit at the beach!
- Food: All food is local food! No chains… Choose from traditional Puerto Rican food, fresh Caribbean seafood, or hamburgers, pizza and chicken wings. Buen provecho!
- Shop!:Many locally owned gift shops with locally made pieces. Take a locally made piece with you as a reminder of Vieques, a place worthy of remembering!

Vieques Recommendations
- SJU to Ceiba: We use them every time! Island Breeze Taxi
- Ferry Transport: You can rent a vehicle, take a Taxi (preorder at $20 avg per car Vieques Taxi 787-741-8294), or White Vans at the Ferry will bring you straight to your location ($10-$20 per person).
- Transportation: Rent a golf cart from Fun Brothers Kiosk (2.5 blocks from us) or Vieques UTV Rental (by Airport), Car/Jeep/Bronco Maritza’s Car Rental.
- Bio Bay: Many to choose from with different times, call around and see who has the availability for the date and time you need. Save $5 & online fees with The Pirate Bio Bay tour and rentals if you call and mention “Coco Loco” discount, pickup is 3.5 blocks away in front of the Green Store (mini mart in Esperanza painted green) and they have the clear Kayaks which make ALL the difference!
- Snorkeling/Kayak Tours: Crystal Clear Vieques, Blackbeard Sports, or Yaboa Tours.
- Activities: Snorkel/jump off Esperanza Pier (2.5 blocks away), stop by Punta Arena to see Sea Turtles and amazing sea life (by car only), walk to Sun Bay beach and see horses on the beach, or go to Playa Negra and see the famous black sand beach (involves 20 min trail).
- Restaurants/Bars: Lots of restaurants and options to eat within walking distance in El Malecon (Boardwalk). Most stop seating around 7 pm, Duffy’s is a favorite, Banana’s, Bili’s, Quenepo, Robin’s Mojito Bar, and Lazy Jacks is open until 2 am and serves food until midnight with an outdoor Caribbean atmosphere.
- Groceries/Snacks: Mini-Mart (Colmado Lydia) is half a block away, and the green store is also 4.5 blocks away.
- Best Beaches: Best clear water go to La Chiva (car or golf cart), a beach where the locals go is Caracas (car, taxi, golf cart), snorkel in baby blue water at Mosquito Pier (car, taxi, golf cart), read a book, sunbathe, swim, or snorkel on Esperanza Beach (majestic views & water only a 1.5 block walk away).
- Side Note: Buy the Ferry tickets ASAP. Tickets are available online or at the ticket window, limited online tickets sell out fast, it will state how many tickets are available for purchase at the window on the website although it says online tickets are sold out.
